Still on the Pacific, we reach Canada and our original destination of Vancouver. Both long-planned and more spontaneous visits are on the agenda here - and this is also where we decide how our journey will continue:
Back home again! Through the Rockies, prairies and forests to the east coast, still in search of a ship passage across the Atlantic.

Volcanic Wonderland
Geological highlights along the Pacific Ring of Fire, encounters with animals and people and the last few kilometers in the United States for the time being. Soon we will be in Vancouver, and soon we will decide how our journey shall continue.

Ancient trees and a vibrant cycling culture
The route north first takes us inland through the Sierra Nevada, until we make our way to the coast because the roads are still closed at this time of year. Impressive trees - so incredible that they first became known as the 'Californian Hoax' -, nice encounters and an exuberant and lively piece of cycling tradition are our highlights.

Monumental cliffs, colorful sandstone landscapes and national parks as well as public lands that make camper life easy.
Traveling in the Southwest, through Arizona, Utah and Nevada, feels easy. The desert reveals its rugged charm, and an unexpected detour takes us into a world of crazy.

On our way to Flagstaff
Through the desert into winter? Hard to imagine at 86ºF in the sand dunes, but we expect snow and temperatures around freezing soon. At least that was the forecast for Sedona when we last checked the weather in Tecate. From the border, our route takes us away from the coast to the east - a detour to some of Rita's favorite landscapes, which provided the impetus for this trip. And at the Grand Canyon, we finally get to enjoy the hospitality of her old friends - a visit that has long been announced and postponed far too often.

Abwechslungsreich-eintönige Landschaften, Sternenhimmel und Walbegegnungen, und ein schleichender Abschied von Mexiko.. wir geniessen die letzten Kilometer auf der Halbinsel, und haben noch einmal Gelegenheit, die tolle mexikanische Gastfreundschaft zu erleben.

Zurück ans Meer
Nun ist bereits ein Jahr vorbei!
Weihnachten in Ameca, Neujahr fast ohne Feuerwerk, aber mit hübschen Heissluftlaternen, die in die Nacht entschwinden. Herzlichst eingeladen von Ruben, dem Besitzer eines kleinen Hotels im Nirgendwo Nayarits. Nach einigen Kilometern die Küste hinauf nehmen wir die Fähre nach Baja California, zu den letzten beiden Bundesstaaten Mexikos die wir entdecken dürfen..
